Following the Grand corruption currently taking place in Kenya (not that its anything new), it comes as no surprise to hear that the anti-corruption big-wig John Githongo has resigned here in london.
I've heard storos that apparently Kibaki and his cronies have stolen in the three years they have been in power, more than what Moi and crew (including most current gov officials) stole in their 25 years in power. (true)
John (mr clean guy) Githongo tried his best to clean out the coacroaches in government but to no avail.... it now seems that Kibaki must have put him as a front just to fleece money out of the donors..
The US has just suspended funding for the anti corruption efforts... I hope all other donors follow suit till this mess is cleared once and for all......

[Why are you being so ignorant of the facts, you say that Kibaki and his friends have stolen more than Moi did in his 25yrs rule.We managed to gain a 1.8 % growth in the economy last year surely that wud have not been possible with the kind of looting you are talking about.True there has been some mistakes but don`t we all learn from that, as for Mr Githongo he was a close friend to the British high commissioner he has also been accused of passing govt secrets to foreigners this Githongo wasn`t clean as he was belived to be.The British are angered by the fact that they are not getting the exclusive rights to business as they did before, they should know that colonialism is over and we Kenyans will do business with whoever.

Bottom line is that we need to get rid of the filth that is our govt! There's far too much mud to clean off, we are better off starting afresh with fresh minds. There's a lot of history amongst the the entire govt so no one can successfully prosecute the other. And they also know what they are capable of, si bure Githongo resigned in the UK where he's guaranteed a safe haven ;D If true that he committed treason then he is worse than ....ai, not too sure which is a bigger crime, treason or stealing from the poor

You really belive that he was passing gov secrets to foreigners??? .....please!! We only learn from our mistakes by correcting them..... not creating bigger ones. This are the same exact people who used to steal during the Moi era.... so obviously they SEE NO EVIL I agree with mrembo..... we need a clean slate......to get rid of ALL the filth in our government

I'll say there's corruption. My girlfriend in Kenya asked an official how much tax was to pay for a generator coming in from UK and was told 16 vat and a whopping 65% import tax. I've just checked on the official customs site and it's actually 5%.

A good advise - always plan everything with lots of time ahead, so that you dont get 'urgency' of anything. Whenever you urgently need something sorted out, you will surely be intimidated to bribe. Its bad, but its there!

Hakuna new gov hapo, they are all the same old school peeps who stole and are still at it right now. The West is not interfering, they collaborated lakini me thinks that they (think they) are now getting a raw deal juu the country is so exhausted hata minerals or other agricultural produce from which they could get returns hakuna anymore. We should push ourselves to a point where we can solve our problems without external help. I still don't understand why we need more donations to fight corruption, si it's a just a case of getting rid of the corrupt officials, ama In which case, we should not spend anymore on those who caused the problem in the first place

If you ask Kenyans from Karumaindo to Boston wote wanajua what is ailing Kenya but we luck two things: Firstly, political will - thats the drive to see things through. This is something i have observed in our country, we try something once if it fails or if jamaas disagree with it we stop trying. That lack of confidence is endemic in Kenyans even over here. We cannot seem to stand up for what we believe and are always afraid of upsetting sensibilities. f**k sensibilities we must learn how to do what must be done. Secondly, we lack altruism even for our own, very few of us are willing to sacrifice for the country. All of us are in the UK plus our skills and knowledge we dont see how we can forgo our salos here for meagre salos in Kenya or whatever other sources of money to give it up for our country. If i collected all the Kenyans in diaspora wekad them back we would be shocked by how Kenya would grow. Apart from voting all the wajingas out we can easily set up businesses and other organisations. Lakini wapi given that we will not even cooperate here in the UK!!! :'(its sad

Liv, thanks for the vote of confidence - but unfortunately we are far from the point where good ideas are the deciding factor in politics in Kenya. What wins is £££££s with many zeros before the decimal point. Since you have offered to help me campaign - i will take your offer seriously, by charging you with the responsibility of uniting Kenyans in UK against all the fear and suspicion that we harbour coz for some reason all this is exactly what we will face in Kenyan politics. I like that ....food for thot Consolation though some will hates us....some will like us but most will look back at us and think that was a blessing to our country.

Untill Raila Odinga, CGH, MP and politician number 1 becomes Prime Minister (by force) those Kikuyu's will continue to be corrupt and steal Kenya's resources. Wait untill 2007, they will make Raila PM, they like it or not.

What has Raila done to Kenya or kenyans since he became Minister for Public Works and Housing apart from demolishing mansions at Kitsuru, when shall we see some work done on our roads? He only seems to whine about being a PM and that will do zilch to Kenya, its never about quantity but quality that matters and in this case Kenya is in dire need of quality leaders! If he still is reluctatnt to perform his duties while a minister then why expect anything from him when he becomes a PM he will only get richer!!
